2026 Spring Update to Donors
Dear A Fund Donor,
In January, Kentucky state police arrested Miranda Spencer on charges of fetal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence. Later that month, the Commonwealth’s attorney dropped the fetal homicide charge, but the tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse charges remain.
In February, more than a year after seeking medical help for a miscarriage, Kentucky authorities arrested a young Booneville couple, Deann and Charles Bennett, charging them with reckless homicide. Deann was also charged with tampering with physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, and concealing the birth of an infant.
In addition to these prosecutions, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman subpoenaed six gas stations in Christian, Logan, and Simpson counties over Mayday Health ads that offered information about abortion resources, which is protected First Amendment speech.
Year after year, in Kentucky, we are seeing abortion access become increasingly dangerous and difficult, which is why your support matters now more than ever.
Over the past six months, we have supported over 1,061 people in accessing abortion care and 1,755 Eastern Kentuckians in receiving condoms, emergency contraception, over-the-counter contraception, and pregnancy tests. Additionally, we’ve built up our social media presence and kicked off the new year with a monthly newsletter so that we can reach more supporters with up-to-date news, educational information, and community events.
To keep up with the need, this year we increased our fundraising for abortion access, raising 89% more in the first seven months of this fiscal year than at the same time last year. Despite these efforts, the need remains acute. As attacks on access increase wait times, travel times, and cost for abortion seekers, the support of donors like you is critical.
This month, A Fund will kick off our first Fund-a-Thon—the largest grassroots fundraiser in support of abortion funds in the nation—with the goal of raising $25,000 so that we can continue to ensure that Kentuckians have access to abortion and contraception. To help us reach our Fund-a-thon goal, you can make a donation through our website below.
Donating isn’t the only way you can support our work. You can subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up-to-date on our work.
Thank you for your support,
